How I Rated These BDSM Candles
When it comes to finding honest opinions online, the options can be—well—limited. With that in mind, I’ve done my best to make this article as unbiased and straightforward as possible.
Using manufacturer information, customer feedback, and my own personal research, I’ve assessed these BDSM candles as accurately as possible.
Every product has both a positive side and a negative one, so I’ve made sure to highlight both sides for each product. After all, you don’t want to spend your hard-earned money on bondage candles just to find out they don’t live up to your expectations!
With that in mind, I’ve written the assessment for each candle below. Make sure to read through and compare all of your options before settling on a selection.

What is Wax Play?
Wax play is the practice of dripping candle wax onto a person for sensual thrills. The practice can be performed by dripping wax on yourself, on your partner, or by having your partner drip wax on you.
This form of temperature play is most often practiced using BDSM candles, which are bondage candles generally made from paraffin wax.
The low melting point of this wax allows users to drip wax from bondage candles onto the skin with minimal risk of injury. This is much different from using regular candles, which—due to their generally higher melting points—have a much higher chance of burning the skin.
What Candles Are BDSM Safe?
Although many BDSM candles are made from paraffin wax, there are other types of wax that you can use. Many different types of wax are used to make candles in general, which means you could potentially use regular candles as bondage candles.
However, to safely do this, you would need to know the melting temperature of the particular type of candle in question. Depending on the type of candle, there may also be allergies to worry about.
- Carnauba & Palm wax should be avoided, as it has a melting point of 180°F.
- Gel wax also has a melting point of 180°F.
- Beeswax has a melting point of around 144°F, making it a poor choice for wax play.
- Paraffin wax has a melting point as low as 115°F, making it suitable for wax play.
- Parasoy wax has a melting point of 133°F, making it a good option for wax play.
- Soy wax is excellent for wax play as it has a low melting point of 113 – 127°F. However, this also means you may run into the issue of it drying quickly.
FAQ
What are BDSM Candles?
BDSM candles (or bondage candles) are candles that are specifically formulated for wax play. To meet these requirements, candles must have a low melting point and be devoid of harmful additives. While some BDSM candles are scented, it’s more common to find non-scented BDSM candles. Although they can be made from a variety of different ingredients, paraffin wax is especially common in bondage candles.

The 5 Best BDSM candles in Test
Japanese Hot Wax Drip Bondage Candles

If you’re looking for the best all-around BDSM candles then it’s hard to beat the Japanese Hot Wax Drip Bondage Candles!
Designed to look like regular candles and coming in a 3-pack, these subtle candles are perfect for wax play enthusiasts.
Although they may be a bit intense for a complete beginner, with a bit of practice, even a total newbie will quickly master the art of dripping wax with these candles.
Non-toxic, sizable, and easy to use, you won’t regret giving these candles a try for yourself!

These BDSM candles were my “test winner” for the simple fact that they offer a great value for the money. With three candles coming in a package that costs less than $20, it’s a deal that’s hard to beat.
These candles are great for pretty much any experience level, although they could be a bit much for a complete beginner who has no idea how far away from the skin to drip the wax.
Still, the heat from these candles should be more than satisfying once you understand how to use it, and can be easily adjusted as needed (depending on the drip height).
I also liked the fact that these candles are designed to look like traditional candles. This gives them a more general appeal, as you don’t have to deal with the hassle of trying to hide them away somewhere in your home.
Overall, I would recommend these to pretty much anyone, although beginners beware: the wax can get quite hot!
Flame Drippers Wax Play Candle Set

Next on my list is the Flame Drippers Wax Play Candle Set, a beginner-friendly pack of BDSM candles.
Due to their low melting point, you won’t need to worry much about burning yourself with these candles.
Each one of these bondage candles comes in its own glass container, making them easy to hold while you’re melting the wax.
With three candles to choose from and a willing partner nearby, the Flame Drippers set offers the perfect introduction to wax play!

The best part about these BDSM candles is also their biggest issue. How so? Well, as beginner-friendly candles, these candles make it somewhat hard for a person to burn themselves.
In fact, that’s the exact reason why I’ve selected them as the best beginner candles! With a low melting point of only 122 degrees, the risk of seriously hurting yourself while using these candles is minimal at best.
However, it would appear that the wick used for these candles has been matched to this low temperature.
As such, while these candles will melt, the process isn’t a quick one. This makes these candles a poor choice for more experienced users who want wax that melts quickly for intense use.
These candles melt rather slowly, making them easy to control for newbies. They also come in glass containers, making them easy to pick up without getting your hands dirty.
Ultimately, the same reason why this product appeals to beginners is the same reason why experienced users should avoid it. Which one are you?
Master Series Dark Drippers Candle

Dark Drippers are black BDSM candles from XR Brands’ Master Series (the red ones are called “Fire Sticks”).
Affordably priced, these BDSM candles last up to 30 minutes per candle and cost around $5 per candle.
The long length of these candles makes them extremely easy to hold as you drip hot wax across your partner’s body (or yourself!).
Relatively simple in design, these candles are subtle enough that you could leave them out without worry.
If you’re looking for a budget-friendly option that won’t turn out to be a waste of money, I think this is a great option!

Chosen as my “cheapest” pick from all the BDSM candles, these candles provide an amazing value for the money. Made using high-quality materials, it would seem that the affordable pricing results from the design itself.
That’s not necessarily a bad thing though. After all, bondage candles are meant to be melted. Even if they had a fancy design, it wouldn’t look very good for long!
These candles are long and black. Lacking any type of glass holder, you should be prepared to get your hands a little dirty if the wax starts dripping.
Still, for the price, I don’t think it’s really worth complaining about. Sure, they may not be the best option out there, but they’ll definitely get the job done (without breaking the bank!).
Lelo Massage Candle Vanilla & Crème De Cacao

If you’re looking for candles that scream luxury then these Lelo Massage candles are the ones for you!
Useful as massage candles or bondage candles, these soy wax candles offer three different pleasant scents that will help set the mood right.
Taking only ten minutes or so to sufficiently melt, these BDSM candles can last up to 36 hours (more than justifying the price!).
When you want a candle that will work for both your vanilla and BDSM-theme fantasies, these Lelo candles are the perfect pick!
Although they may not specifically be BDSM candles, these candles are still a great option for wax play. Earning my “luxurious” title, these candles truly do bring a new level to the experience.
Unlike many other options, these candles are actually scented. With three different scents to choose from, you’ll be able to perfectly set the scene you’re after.
While the price is significantly higher than other options on this list, I think it’s easily justified by the extended burn time. This lengthy time frame means you could use the candle as a bondage candle and as a massage candle.
Of course, you could also use this candle as a regular candle, making it an attractive option to anyone. Overall, if you don’t mind spending over $30 for a candle, I’d say this option from Lelo is worth checking out!
LaCire Drip Pillar Candles

The last BDSM candles I highly recommend are the LaCire Drip Pillar Candles.
Plain to look at and easy to use, these candles get the job done at an affordable price.
Offering up to 90 minutes of burn time per candle, you’ll have plenty of time to experiment and enjoy sensation play with these candles.
Quickly cooling and easy to peel, the cleanup experience won’t even get in the way of your afterglow.
If you prefer simple designs and darker colours, these candles are a great option at an excellent price!

These BDSM candles didn’t get a category win because there’s nothing particularly special about them: they’re simply good candles!
The long burn time means you can easily get multiple uses out of each candle, and you’ll probably get to enjoy some of the moisturizing effects of the paraffin wax in the meantime.
Although not quite as cheap as our most affordable option, they’re still a pretty cheap pick. Really, the only thing that lets them down is a lack of color options.
Offered in black and violet, neither option is particularly vibrant. While the violet is certainly a bit brighter than the black, it’s still a rather subtle color.
Aside from that minor complaint, these candles are a great option. If you’re not quite sure which bondage candles to try next, these could be worth checking out.

Perfect Candles for BDSM Decor
Alright, now that we’ve looked at a variety of BDSM candles, you’ve probably noticed a theme: they’re pretty plain! If you’re looking for something that’s a bit more eye-catching, one of the options below should do the trick.

LaCire Torso Form I Drip Candle

Perfect for display and for play, the Torso Form I is a candle modeled after the female form. Made from soy and paraffin wax, this candle is a great option for wax play that will stand out from the others in your collection.

LaCire Torso Form IV Drip Candle

If you’d prefer to enjoy the male form instead, the Torso Form IV is a great option. Made from the same soy and paraffin wax blend as the aforementioned candle, this uniquely-crafted candle is a great option for wax play.

Dark Pecker Black Dick Drip Candle

If you find phallic objects to be erotic then the Dark Pecker Candle is the one for you! Shaped and modeled after a human penis, this 7.3-inch long candle makes dripping wax on your special someone even more enjoyable.
For More Sensual Experience
BDSM candles by themselves can certainly offer an exciting experience, but why limit yourself to solely candles? Consider using a few of the items below if you really want to enhance the experience.

Lovehoney Silky Black Blindfold

Simple but effective, this black blindfold comfortably obstructs the wearer’s view, cutting them off from the world around them and allowing them to focus purely on their other senses.

Under the Bed Restraint System

Sharing a bondage experience with your partner can certainly be erotic, but the idea of needing lots of space and dedicated equipment can prevent many potential enthusiasts from participating. With the Under the Bed Restraint System, you can easily turn any old bed into a four-limb restraint system!

Bind & Tie Initiation Kit

If you don’t want to be limited to strictly the bedroom then the Bind & Tie Initiation Kit is what you need. Complete with three hemp ropes totaling 110 feet, you’ll have plenty of rope to complete any bondage fantasies you may have.
How to: Wax Play
Wax play is simple enough. You heat up your bondage candles and drip the wax on a willing partner. However, there is another thing that you should keep in mind.
The most important part of wax play is communication. While wax in a certain area may feel nice at the beginning, it could start to hurt later on. You & your partner must have an easy way to communicate these changes.
That’s where a safe word can come in. Depending on the situation, “no” might not actually mean “no”… so what can you say instead?
Well, a safe word can be any word you’d like it to be, but it should be something that you’d never say normally. Discuss the idea with your partner beforehand and settle on a safeword together.
With a safe word at your disposal, you’ll be able to easily let your partner know that the heat from the BDSM candles is a bit much (or vice versa). This added level of communication is sure to enhance your overall experience, while also reducing the chance of injury.
How to Use BDSM Candles
So, how do you actually use BDSM candles? Let’s go over it!

Discuss

You and your partner should know exactly what the plan is before you begin. Discuss any limitations you may have, as well as any other type(s) of play you want to incorporate into your wax play. As mentioned above, establish a safe word (if you haven’t already). With that out the way, grab a fire extinguisher just in case.
Light the Candle

This part is the easy step! Simply light the candle and wait for the wax to melt. This will likely take ten minutes or more, but exactly how long it takes will depend on the candle in question. Check to see if your manufacturer gives an estimated wait time.
