The Tried and Tested Bedbible Review System
If you know anything about wand vibrators, you’ll know that they’re one of the most powerful sex toys on the market. We’ve already reviewed 600+ sex toys (including magic wand vibrators) on our website. Additionally, I spent over 195 hours testing, reviewing, and ranking the best wand vibrators for this post.
The things I put the most value on was:
- Vibrator strength / power
- Price
- Noise and discretion (difficult with magic wands!)
- Quality and durability
Things to Consider When Buying a Magic Wand Vibrator
First time using a magic wand vibrator? Being one of the most powerful sex toys out there, there are lots of things to consider when it comes to buying this powerful toy:
- Price — While magic wand vibrators can be super powerful, they can also be super pricey. However, they do tend to be long-lasting and durable.
- Size and Weight — Not only are magic wand vibrators powerful and pricey, they can also be pretty bulky and heavy! A smaller wand massager is a great option.
- Ergonomics — As many magic wand vibrators will be used solo, you want to find an ergonomic design that’s going to be useful for your body shape and abilities.
- Buzzy vs Rumbly — Magic wand vibrators are known for their rumbly vibes especially. Some still has a buzzy vibe, but it’s fewer than normal vibrators.
- Waterproof — A waterproof magic wand will be able to tolerate spillage from lubes, and bodily fluids, and will even be able to accompany you in the shower.
- Rechargeable, Battery, or Mains-Operated? — The most popular wand tends to be the rechargeable variety, as it combines durability with convenience. That said, the battery-operated toys are great if you’re on a budget.

What Did Our Tester Think?
Rachel is more a pinpoint stimulation kinda gal but even she could appreciate the amazing quality of the Le Wand Rechargeable Massage Wand. She was impressed by both it’s looks and it’s rumbly vibrations. She also loved that her boyfriend could easily use it on her!
“I honestly didn’t expect to love the Le Wand as much as I do. I felt that I had to try a wand massager in the name of sexy science, but I was so sure that the broad clit stimulation just wasn’t for me. How wrong I was! I would, of course, recommend the Le Wand to anyone looking for a super powerful, rumbly vibrator.”
Sex Expert Opinion:
As much as it pains me not to crown my all time favorite sex toy, the Doxy Die Cast as the test winner, I feel like the Le Wand Massager is more of a crowd pleaser and will suit a wider range of people’s desires. It looks great, it delivers quality vibrations, and it’s easy to use! Just keep in mind that it’s not waterproof so you will need to take care when cleaning it.

Verdict
What Did Our Tester Think?
Although Cassie isn’t a wand girly, she still enjoyed the powerful vibrations of the VIM. She found the lower settings nice and rumbly but the higher settings got a little buzzy for her liking.
“I’m generally super impressed with the design, performance, and overall quality of this vibrator. It’s super versatile, great for people with grip or mobility issues, and easy to use. Definitely not an obvious choice if you’re on a budget, but a great item to start saving for now.”
Sex Expert Opinion:
The Fun Factory Vim is a quality wand and I really like that it delivers power while still being relatively quiet, as wand vibrators are known for being some of the loudest vibrators out there! The textured handle is also a nice touch as it’s easier to grip, even if things get a little lubey! The textured head will be a matter of preference but the texture is only light so doesn’t add too much intensity.

What Did Our Tester Think?
Mariah was shocked by how well Lovehoney Extra Powerful Wand Vibrator lived up to it’s name. This wand vibrator is indeed extra powerful!
“Overall I really enjoyed this vibrator! I can see myself using it for myself, and my partner in the future, and definitely WITH my partner as well. I was taken aback by the sheer power alone, but after finding a setting that was right for me, this guy may be my new favorite toy.”
Sex Expert Opinion:
The Lovehoney Extra Powerful Wand Vibrator delivers some powerful vibrations on a budget. Both our reviewer and other users have noted that they are on the buzzier side, so if you crave intense rumbles, this isn’t the wand vibrator for you. It’s also quite loud, so you should consider whether you can live with the noise. Design-wise it doesn’t have that luxurious feel, but it is over half the price of many other wands!

Beginners Lovehoney Deluxe Mini Wand Vibrator
For those who want the pleasure that only a magic wand vibrator can provide, but on-the-go, Lovehoney has answered your prayer and produced a mini version of their beloved Deluxe Massage Wand Vibrator.
Despite its size, this mini wand vibrator offers a huge 10 vibration speeds and 7 pattern options, so there’ll be no compromises on warm-up routines or vibe variations.
The smooth plastic body measures only 7.5 inches long and comes in four attractive colors, while the silicone head is firm and textured for extra stimulation.
The smaller size also allows for more precise clit stimulation than a larger vibrating wand, and also means that it can be slipped between you and your partner during penetrative sex for that extra oomph.
Pros
- ✅ Compact size
- ✅ Budget-friendly
- ✅ Can be used during sex
- ✅ Beginner-friendly
Cons
- ❌ Short battery life
- ❌ Weaker buzzy vibrations
- ❌ Hard to clean
- ❌ Not waterproof
Vibrations:
Verdict
The Lovehoney Deluxe Mini Wand is a fantastic compact option both for those who want portability as well as those who aren’t fans of the big, heavy style of magic wand vibrator.
It’s also a very cheap wand sex toy! For that price, you might expect to sacrifice quality, but this is actually a very well-made and nice-feeling toy, albeit a smaller version of the original wand design. I like that mini wand vibrators are compact, transportable, and can target a smaller area of pleasure, and in terms of design I was quite pleased with the cute aesthetic and flexible silicone neck. Since this petite designs also works so well for partnered sex, as it fits snugly in between two people, I’ve rated it well on these points.
There are some downsides, though. This wand can’t really produce the powerful, rumbly vibrations that some people crave, and sometimes feels more like a buzzy bullet. It also has a pretty short battery life, though it is rechargeable. The plastic did also look and feel quite cheap initially. In terms of performance and overall quality this little guy didn’t do so well in my book.
And finally, after use I found it a little hard to clean. The grooves in its silicone head can harbor lube and other fluids, but the vibrator isn’t waterproof, meaning you’ll have to wipe it very thoroughly and carefully to keep it clean and safe. Overall, I think it’s a very affordable mini wand massager that may be a good option for someone looking for a milder version of these powerful magic wand vibrators!

- Smooth silicone head
- 3 meter cable and adapters for use in the UK, EU, US & AU
Pros
- ✅ Powerful vibrations
- ✅ Sleek metal design
- ✅ Simple controls
- ✅ No charging required
Cons
- ❌ Expensive
- ❌ Bulky and heavy
- ❌ Corded power supply
Vibrations:
Verdict
What Did Our Tester Think?
I tested the Doxy Die Cast, well maybe I should say the Doxy Die Cast tested me! If you ever want to feel like a complete sub to a toy, this is the one to do it! The intense power, richter-scale rumbles, and sleek powerful body hold some kind of power over me, especially when in the hands of partner who enjoys the power that comes with it! This is my absolute favorite sex toy of all time.
My only complaint is that it didn’t come with a neat storage bag. One might also think that the corded feature is a con but I personally like how I don’t have to worry about my vibrator running out of juice midsession – especially with such a power house of a sex toy! I never have to remember to charge it and the cord is nice and long so you aren’t restricted.
Sex Expert Opinion:
I love the Doxy Wand on a personal level. However, I also realise that this wand will be way too powerful for some people! I only recommend splashing the cash on this glorious beast of a wand vibrator if you love intense power!
The other thing that might be a deciding factor is the weight. At 690 grams, the Die Cast is one of the heavier wands out there. I love the added pressure that gives to the toy and how the weightiness gives it a high quality feel but it could be too heavy for some.

Waterproof LELO Smart Wand 2 Wand Sex Toy
- Beautiful design covered in smooth silicone
- Curved handle for better positioning
- 10 different vibration modes to explore
- Waterproof
- Rechargeable
Pros
- ✅ Powerful, rumbly vibrations
- ✅ Ergonomic design
- ✅ Cordless
- ✅ Waterproof
Cons
- ❌ Expensive
- ❌ Loud
- ❌ Bulky
- ❌ Vibrations strong in handle
- ❌ Feels a bit rattly
Vibrations:
Verdict
What Did Our Tester Think?
I also tested out the Lelo Smart Wand I would say it’s a pretty good wand but not quite the same level as the Le Wand or Doxy. It is powerful, and I really like the look and feel of the silicone and shiny panel. It’s also a huge plus that it’s fully waterproof. However, the vibrations feel a little rattly and can be felt in the handle. The curve and lighter weight also makes it easier to use that a heavier wand.
Sex Expert Opinion:
While I don’t think the LELO Smart Wand 2 can quite compete for the overall best magic wand vibrator, I do think it’s a good vibrator, and I would say it’s the best option for anyone that prioritises having a full-size, waterproof magic wand. This makes it much easier to clean and can be used in the bath or shower. I would also say the luxurious look and feel and rumbly vibrations are a big plus for the Smart Wand.

Pros
- ✅ Travel-sized

Cons
- ❌ Not fully waterproof

- ❌ Not as strong as full-size wands
Vibrations:
Verdict
What Did Our Tester Think?
Karla really liked the overall look of the Magic Wand Petite but found it just too powerful for her liking.
“The Le Wand proved to be for the experienced users, trained to orgasm from powerful vibrations. With limited experience, its vibrations are still capable to arouse, but the feeling may be elusive.”
Sex Expert Opinion:
I think the smaller size of this mini wand can be more practical both during use and if you want to take your wand with you on holiday. It’s also a bonus that it comes with a travel lock!
Don’t let the smaller size fool you though! It’s still got plenty of power to please the power queens out there! Unfortunately, the power goes hand in hand with noise, so keep in mind it’s not super discreet but that applies to almost every wand!

What Did Our Tester Think?
Unfortunately, Edie did not enjoy reviewing the Magic Wand Rechargeable. She found it too loud and powerful for her liking. She was also not impressed with the overzealous safety warnings that come with the toy.
“Look, I am a small woman. So, the fit wasn’t right at all for me. Plus, because of my size and the fact that I require only whisper-soft caresses to bring me to climax, the Magic Wand was just too much. I swear my teeth are still chattering together.”
Sex Expert Opinion:
Although Edie did not like the Magic Wand Rechargeable, I still chose to include it because it is a great quality wand! Of course, if you don’t enjoy powerful vibrations, steer well clear of this powerhouse! However, if love are a power lover, this wand is a great option!
I decided in this isolated case to edit our tester’s score, so although they only gave it 1 star in their review, I have given it 4.5, which, based on my expert opinion as a sex and sex toy expert, I feel is a much fairer representation of the overall quality of the product. While we try to avoid doing this, the reviewer, who admits they are very sensitive to stimulation, was not the best person to test a powerful wand.
I also really like they have upgraded from the Original model, which had a vinyl head, and now have a body-safe silicone head.
I will say that the Magic Wand Rechargeable does come with a rather alarming set of warnings, but many of them are just to cover the company’s back. Of course, if you have any health concerns that affect your genitals, a super powerful wand like this probably isn’t a great idea. It’s also common sense that you shouldn’t get a non-waterproof wand wet, especially if it’s plugged into the mains power. I personally don’t think the Magic Wand Rechargeable is more dangerous than other wands, the safety label is just more extensive!
That said, I don’t think it has escaped every pitfall. This Magic Wand vibrator still suffers from volume issues, especially on higher speeds, and it not waterproof, which is just less practical. I would still say this is the best Hitatchi Wand for those specifically looking to try out the OG brand.

App-Controlled Lovense Domi 2
- App-control gives you greater customisation options and long-distance control
- Compact model is easier to manoeuvre, store, and transport
- Up to 6 hours of battery life
- Splash-proof for easy cleaning (PX6 water resistance)
Pros
- ✅ Powerful vibrations
- ✅ Optional app control
- ✅ Long battery life
- ✅ Cordless
Cons
- ❌ Not fully waterproof
- ❌ Not quiet
Vibrations:
Verdict
What Did Our Tester Think?
Vern was a little shocked by how powerful the Domi was! This little thing packs a punch! They enjoyed using the app-controls but did note that it’s a pretty loud vibrator so not the best for being discreet.
“The Domi 2 is a strong and unique vibrator. It gives the user the ability to customize their experience, have some extra versatility, and leaves room for creativity. Yes, it is very strong and there are some unique aspects to it when you look into the Lovense Remote app and get to play around with the technology.”
Sex Expert Opinion:
I really like the smaller design of the Domi and think it’s nice size for anyone who is put off by the size of a full-sized wand but still craves the intense power.
I’m also a big fan of Lovense’s app both in terms of the features it offers and the reliability. Of course, it’s not perfect, but in my experience it’s much more stable than others. If you are looking for a wand vibrator to use with a long-distance partner, this is the best option. Of course, this added tech puts the price up somewhat but that’s to be expected. If you aren’t interested in the app-control features, I would consider a different option. That being said, I don’t think the Lovense Domi is overpriced and is actually cheaper than some other wands in the review.

Gentle Dame Com Personal Wand Massager
- Ergonomic curves for ease of use
- Covered in smooth silicone
- Waterproof
- 5 speed and 5 patterns of rumbly vibrations
- Cordless/rechargeable
Pros
- ✅ Super rumbly vibrations
- ✅ Ergonomic design
- ✅ Compact size
- ✅ Waterproof
- ✅ Travel lock
Cons
- ❌ Shorter battery life
- ❌ Less powerful than other wands
- ❌ Vibrations travel down the handle
- ❌ Long charge time
Verdict
What Did Our Tester Think?
Vern also tested the Dome Com and enjoyed it more than the Lovense Domi. They loved the curved design as it lent it self to being used in different positions. They also enjoyed the less powerful vibrations it offered as it didn’t become over-stimulating.
“The Dame Com is a great, versatile wand with silky-smooth silicone and easy-to-use accessible features. It’s perfect for folks who need travel locks and quieter vibes, for people who like to switch up their positions with their toys for grinding or lounging on their backs or anything in-between.”
Sex Expert Opinion:
I think the Dame Com is the perfect wand for anyone who finds a lot of power overstimulating but still loves the broad, rumbly stimulation of a wand.
The Dame Com also does very well in terms of design. The ergonomic and unique shape allows for a comfortable grip. It’s a great option for those who want something a bit more well-thought-out than a traditional Hitachi. One downside to this handle is that the vibrations do seem to travel through it. It can potentially make your hand feel a little numb after a while.

This Magic Wand runs on mains power and has a detachable 3.2 foot long power cord for convenience and versatility.
Wand Vibrator Features to Look For
With the reputation that magic wand vibrators have garnered over the years for being particularly powerful beasts, it’s no surprise that many can be intimidated about how to start using one. If you’re a wand vibrator novice, here are some things to consider before you take the plunge and make your first purchase…
Corded vs Cordless
Corded wands have the advantage of never running out battery. If you are near a plug, these bad boys are good to go! Mains power used to be the only way to get intense power but now rechargeable wands can give the corded wands a run for their money.
Rechargeable wands have the advantage of not having a cord to get in the way or needing to be near a plug outlet. You do, however, need to remember to keep it recharged!
Power
Magic Wand Vibrators are, by and large, powerful vibrators that provide intense stimulation. If you aren’t a fan of powerful vibrations, wand vibrator might not be the best choice. That being said, there are some, like the Dame Com, that are more gentle. The best way to find out is by reading reviews!
Noise
With great power comes great noise. Is that not the quote? Either way, personal wand massagers are not known for their subtlety. The more powerful a wand is, the louder it tends to be. If you need a very quiet, discreet vibrator you might want to opt for a slightly smaller or less powerful wand as they tend to be quieter.
Sizes
Most magic wand vibrators were originally designed for massaging the body, so it had a long handle to make it easy to reach all over the body. Coincidentally, the long bodies also make it easy to reach your clit from a lying position, and large, bulbous vibrating heads allow for maximum surface contact with your clit and vulva.
If you struggle with bigger, heavier toys, or you just prefer something smaller look for models that are described as mini wands, petite wands, or compact wands.
Waterproof or splashproof
Corded wands will never be waterproof and should be kept dry during use and cleaning.
However, some rechargeable wands are waterproof or splashproof. This makes them much easier to clean and means you can enjoy them in the shower!
Beware of Counterfeits
Wand vibrators, especially the Magic Wand-brand wands, are pretty ubiquitous, which means that they’re popular targets for fakery and scams. Counterfeit vibrating wands, however, aren’t just a rip-off – they can be pretty dangerous.
Putting cheaply-made fake electronics anywhere your genitals is a big no-no. They could break, get hot, or even spark, and you don’t want to get harmed in the process. You can make sure your Magic Wand is authentic by buying from trusted, reputable sellers.
What Makes Magic Wand Vibrators So Powerful?
Out of all the vibrators in the sex toy realm, personal wand massagers are generally known as the strongest and most intense. But why is this? What makes them so special?
In general, wand vibrators have motors with a very high RPM, or revolutions per minute. This means that the motors are vibrating very fast, and very intensely. The stronger the motor is in your wand, the stronger the vibrations will be, and the more intense they will feel.
Magic wand vibrators are often quite heavy, too, so that you can apply a lot of firm pressure to your clitoris and really feel those vibrations through your body.
Most wands fall on the rumbly end of the scale but some even go an extra step further to make sure the vibrations are extra rumbly! For example, The Doxy Die Cast has a double weighted head. These rumbly vibrations mean the stimulation penetrates deeper into the tissue stimulating more of your sensitive nerve endings.
And finally, you have the large head of the wand, which means it reaches a much greater surface area than, say, a small bullet vibrator. For many vulva-owners, stimulating a larger area at once is exactly what they need to reach a stronger, more intense orgasm!
When To Avoid Wand Vibrators
- Health Conditions — If you’ve recently had reconstructive surgery done, experience vaginal prolapse, have and genital conditions or simply have issues with bruising you should consult your doctor before using a powerful wand vibrator.
- Extra sensitive Clits — If you know you get easily overstimulated or numbed out by powerful vibrations, consider opting for a bullet vibrator or clit suction stimulator.
Are Wand Vibrators Safe?
Yes, most magic wand vibrators are totally safe when used correctly and with some common sense. Like any other vibrator, you won’t desensitize your clitoris, vulva or vagina by using one ‘too often’, because that’s simply not a thing! However, there are definitely some things to consider to make sure that a wand is safe to use, including:
Was it Made to be a Sex Toy?
As you now know from the section above, the original Magic Wand vibrator was created as a piece of sports equipment. While I’m very grateful for those pioneering women who discovered how great it could be as a sex toy, I don’t advocate doing the same today.
You should only consider using a magic wand vibrator for clitoral stimulation if it was specifically designed to be a sex toy!
What is it Made From?
The materials that a magic wand vibrator is made from will greatly impact its safety, as well as its longevity and quality!
The head (what will be coming into contact with your body) is the most important part here. You should always stick to wand heads with non-porous materials — in most cases, this will be silicone.
Non-porous means that, unlike porous materials, the surface is free from microscopic pores, or holes, that can harbor bacteria, viruses, fungi and other germs. Porous materials, like PVC, rubber and vinyl, are incredibly difficult to clean and can potentially introduce these germs to your sensitive genital area. So, avoid them!
How Long Are You Using it For?
Since magic wand vibrators are so notoriously powerful, it pays to watch out for how long you use them for.
Lower quality and/or older wand massager models have a tendency to heat up with use, and could potentially cause injury if you don’t turn them off and give them time to cool down.
In fact, some models, like the Hitachi Magic Wand, have an automatic timer that switches the toy off after 15 minutes to prevent this from happening.
Always Read the Leaflet!
As Edwina found when she reviewed the Magic Wand Rechargeable, wand massagers can come with a lot of warnings and advice from the manufacturer!
I recommend reading these thoroughly before you use your wand, as there might be some warnings that are applicable to you. After all, magic wand vibrators are meant to be pleasurable, but not at the expense of your health.
Why Choose a Smaller Wand?
Not sure whether you’d be better off with a mini wand massager or a full-sized magic wand vibrator? Here are the main pros and cons of each to help you decide!
Small
Pros:
- More discreet than full-size masager wands
- Ideal for beginners
- Tend to be cordless and USB-rechargeable
- More travel-friendly
- Less expensive
- Easier to manoeuvre and fit between bodies during partnered sex
Cons:
- Not as powerful
- Tend to be buzzier
- Short handle not as easy to reach genitals
- Not as many attachment options
Full-Sized
Pros:
- More powerful
- Choice of corded or cordless
- Vibrations tend to be rumblier
- Lots of universal attachment options
- Long handle makes it easy to reach genitals
- Buttons tend to be easier to use
Cons:
- Can feel big, heavy and cumbersome
- Can be pretty loud
- Might be too powerful for some
- More expensive
A Brief History of the Hitachi Magic Wand
Been there, done that, bought the vibrator. But how did we get here?
"Hysteria"
The origin of wand vibrators is thought to stem back to the 1800s, when doctors would diagnose women experiencing almost anything with a condition called ‘hysteria’ (Greek for ‘uterus’) and prescribe manual stimulation of the clitoris as a cure.
However, research by Hallie Lieberman has since cast a lot of doubt on these claims. Vibrators were however used therapeutically for a lot of things at the time, so it was only a matter of time before people discovered their other applications!
Hitachi
The Hitachi Magic Wand was originally manufactured and marketed as a muscle massager by Japanese brand Hitachi in 1968. It was made to soothe away muscular aches and pains: on your calves, shoulders, back, neck, pretty much anywhere on your body that needed attention!
Betty Dodson
Fast-forward a few years to the mid-70s. Betty Dodson, an American sex educator, learned from a friend of the magical uses of the Hitachi Magic Wand. She pioneered pro-sex feminism through workshops that encouraged women to explore their sexuality through self-pleasure using the Hitachi Magic Wand.
Vibratex
It wasn’t long before the Magic Wand became widely known for its use as a sex toy, but Hitachi refused (and still does) to acknowledge what the wand was actually being used for. That’s why, when they stopped manufacturing them altogether in 1999 (gasp!), US sex toy company Vibratex took the reins.
The rest is history
And here we are. The magic wand has had several makeovers, with ‘wand vibrator’ becoming its own category of sex toys, and many, many companies hopping aboard the train. Thank goodness for that!
Hitachi vs Vibratex
Confused by the different brands names floating around the internet for the Magic Wand? You’re not alone! It took a fair amount of research for me to sort the Hitachis from the Vibratexes, so here’s a quick run down of who actually makes the Magic Wand. Turns out, it’s actually an interesting piece of sex toy history!
The Hitachi Magic Wand
In 1968, Japanese electronics giant created the ‘Magic Wand’, a wand that was designed to be a sports massager for sore muscles. In fact, it was even branded as ‘The Workout’ during the 70s, which really drove the point home.
However, a lot of women caught on to ‘alternative’ uses of the Magic Wand fairly quickly. Sex educator Betty Dodson started using it in her Bodysex workshops in the late 60s, which really helped to popularize it as a masturbation tool.
From there on, the Hitachi Magic Wand, often known just as ‘The Hitachi’, only grew in popularity. However, Hitachi never actually acknowledged this use of their wand, insisting that it was still just a sports massager.
The Disappearance
Then, in 1999, tragedy struck. The company that distributed many of Hitachi’s electronics in the US stopped paying their bills, and so Hitachi stopped supplying them. That meant no more Hitachi Magic Wands in the US!
With consumers desperate for the power of the Magic Wand, sex toy company Vibratex saw an opportunity. They formed a deal with Hitachi to distribute their Magic Wand, which was still officially called the ‘Hitachi Magic Wand’.
The (Vibratex) Magic Wand
In 2012, Hitachi decided to stop making the Magic Wand. They had allegedly caught up to how it was really being marketed in the US, and they weren’t a fan. But Vibratex asked if they could continue selling the Magic Wand without the Hitachi branding, and they agreed.
So, in 2013, the Magic Wand as we know it today was born – upgraded and revamped a little before launch. Since then, Vibratex and Hitachi have been releasing new Magic Wands, too, including the Magic Wand Rechargeable and the Magic Wand Plus!
So, if you hear the Magic Wand being called ‘the Hitachi’, or someone mentioning a mysterious Vibratex, now you know why.
