AH! YES Plant Oil Based Personal Lubricant Review
My Verdict
My overall opinion is that I like this product as a vaginal moisturiser, not as a sexual lubricant. I really like the natural ingredients and the overall product, but I personally don't think it is a good lube. I would highly recommend this product to someone who experiences vaginal dryness and maybe wants to add a bit of wetness to their foreplay or personal masturbation, but it doesn't last long when using it with a partner because of the increased friction. I am a fan of the Ah Yes natural moisturisers, as they really feel natural and have great ingredients are don't increase infection risk, but I prefer a more slippery, thinner lube. It is a good product, but there are better natural lubes on the market, that will act as a slippery layer between you and your partner, or sex toy.

Design
Overall, I am very excited about the Ah Yes lubes. The design of the packaging is so attractive to me - Firstly the colours of the navy blue and white look sleek and modern and I really like the design of the blue 'swoosh'. I think the design is modern and not too overwhelming for the consumer. The silver branding of logos looks high quality and more expensive. I really like how discrete the packaging is - Sometimes I find that lubes can look tacky or cheap and I feel reluctant to display it on my bedside cabinet. Yet with this bottle, it is small and subtle, almost looking like a moisturiser or skin product. If I was to upgrade the design, I would make the font size bigger on the label, so that I can quickly see what type of lube it is, especially when next to other Ah Yes lubes. As well, I would possibly change the colours from blue to green, as green to me, subconsciously says that the product is more organic. The blue to me represents water, of which we know to be false as this lube doesn't contain water. I would like the packaging to relate to what is inside the product.
Ease of Use
When on the skin, this lube isn't watery or runny - Instead, it is more like a paste that sits on the surface. As this product is oiled based, I would recommend using it as a massage oil for body or genital massages. When rubbed into the skin, it feels smooth and conditioning. I love the way this lube doesn't become sticky or tacky when using it, instead it remains nourishing and hydrating. When washing it off the skin, it takes a decent amount of soap to fully wash it off, as it seems the linger on the skin after washing. Some may like that; leaving the skin feeling conditioned and oiled, but for me, I really dislike it. Once it is washed off, I want it to feel like it is off my skin. It also smells like sunflower seeds and even after washing it off, it leaves a dull smell on the skin. It isn't a bad smell, but as I said, once I have washed it off, I want it all gone including the smell. This lube isn't compatible with condoms, due to its' oil based ingredients. It is however compatible with all sex toy, including silicone. I would not recommend using this lube with large toys, as I personally don't think it is coating enough.
Quality
Like all the Ah Yes lubes, this lube is FDA approved. This is very important to me as this is a product that is going to be interacting with my body. I find reassurance in knowing that this lube is made of safe ingredients that are okay to go inside me. As this lube is targeted towards people with vulvas, it has a pH balance of 6, which is acidic. This pH reading attempts to match the natural pH balance of a vulva, which is great as this reduces the chances of getting a vaginal infection. The ingredients in this lube are all organic and natural, and don't include any glycerin or parabens. Sometimes I aviod using lubes that have a silicone base, as I prefer a more natural ingredients based lube. The ingredients in this lube are: Helianthus annuus (sunflower) seed oil, Butyrosepermum parkii (shea butter), prunus dulcis (sweet almond oil), cera alba (bees wax), theobroma cacao (cocoa) seed butter, Tocopherol (vitamin E).
Price
This lube is certainly a high-end product; at a first look, the packaging and design looks high quality. The box that the lube comes in is a premium touch; to me it says that the company have put more money and effort into the image of the product. The bottle itself could have been made of a higher quality material, like glass, but now I am just being picky. The lube itself also feels expensive; being nourishing and conditioning when rubbed onto the skin. Products that use organic ingredients are usually more expensive, as it is better for your body and the natural ingredients are a higher price to buy. But compared to other natural ingredients on the market, this lube doesn't have a high price tag, which is a big win! Who wouldn't want a high quality product with a low price tag - it's the dream!
Performance
The consistency of this lube is thick, having the consistency in between a gel and vaseline. It is smooth, almost like a hair conditioner, and feels like a think oil. As it is oil based, it is long-lasting and slippery - I think this lube would work best during personal masturbation or when using a small sex toy. When dropped off the spoon, it didn't fall, at all! It is a product that has to be rubbed into the skin to smooth it out, opposing other lubes which can be dropped onto the desired area and can lubricate it themselves. If you're looking for a wet, runny lube that will fall across the skin, then this isn't the lube for you. I liked the way it felt in my hands but I didn't like it that much for a lube - I prefer something more runny.
Packaging
The Ah Yes oil based lube has some of my favourite packaging on the market - The lube comes in a very soft, flexible plastic bottle that is easy to squeeze. Some lube bottles are made of thick plastic that are hard to get the whole product out, so I really love how I can access the very last drop of lube - I feel like it is better value for money. The bottle has an easy-to-use plastic click-close lid, that would be great when travelling, as it is certainly small enough to take in a travel bag. I am such a big lover of products that come in a box, as to me it feels more luxurious and higher quality. I love the experience of opening a box to a product inside, it feels like a gift!
Stain Test
If you were to wear this as a vaginal moisturiser on your daily, it is very easy to wash out of clothes, like underwear. It doesn't leave a lasting stain after washing, and it is very easy to wash off the skin, whilst still leaving the area hydrated and smooth. I don't typically like a product that feels like it is still on my skin after washing, but if you don't mind it, then it doesn't leave your skin feeling greasy, but more hydrated. Looking at the gel, it is not entirely translucent, it is a slightly white colour, so if you're wearing dark coloured underwear, you will see it on the clothing. But again, it doesn't leave any lasting stains or discolouration after washing it in the washing machine.
