Why I Chose It

The Fetish Fantasy Extreme O-Ring Gag takes the cake as the Test Winner in my book. It’s such a classic open mouth gag design but offers a modern touch with the smooth silicone that makes it a lot more comfortable, practical, and durable.

I had the pleasure of testing it out myself and I absolutely loved it! It’s become my favorite gag in my whole collection. I am partial to the simple and sleek design without too many bells and whistles. It looks really sexy and kinky but isn’t too bulky or distracting when you’re in the heat of the moment. The straps are nice and adjustable and the buckle has a lockable design so you can easily amp up the intensity (provided you have small padlock on hand)!

Since an open mouth gag like this is ideal for oral penetration and excessive drooling, I love that this gag is so easy to clean thoroughly. No leather straps that can only be wiped down with a damp cloth. This baby can even be fully sterilized! Apart from being really practical, the silicone is also just super comfortable. It feels soft and silky and doesn’t get caught on hair at all.

The only con is that the o-ring is only 1.5 inches in diameter. While this is great for beginner wearers, it may not be large enough to accommodate some penises. Although, you can still “forcibly” insert fingers, slim dildos, or even a cheeky tongue in there!

The DOMINIX Deluxe Lip Gag is my top choice for those who aren’t looking for splurge but still want something made of quality materials. Lip gags are a fairly popular type of open mouth gag but they’re often made of porous materials, like PVC or rubber. These lips are crafted from body-safe silicone, so that’s a great step-up in terms of quality. The silicone is also nice and soft which makes this gag easy to use for beginners, as our tester, Rae, also discovered: “I found it more comfortable because of its softness and the fact I could close my jaw if I really wanted to.”

In her review, Rae points out that only the lips are being held open by the gag and not the teeth (and jaw). Although, with lip gags like these, your teeth are supposed to slide nicely into that ridge behind the silicone lips along with your own lips. So, your teeth should be behind the silicone lips keeping your jaw open during playtime. Despite this misunderstanding, Rae still thought that “This gag is of excellent value and creates a wonderful sense of submission. It’s well-made, easy to clean and as comfortable to wear as it can be”.

The Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag is another great style of open mouth gag that combines the joys of a lip gag with a similar feel to an actual ball gag that stuffs your mouth and silences you a bit. The best part is that you get to enjoy it both ways with this removable mouth plug. I really like that the flexible silicone makes the lip gag nice and pliable without the mouth plug. When the mouth plug is in, the gag becomes more rigid and therefore more intense!

In terms of ease of use, Jesse found that the silicone created quite a learning curve to overcome: “Trying to adjust the fastenings on seemed impossible, especially for those with long hair. It took quite a bit of putting it on and off and making adjustments until it felt right, and even then it wasn’t perfect. I think we’ll get there eventually, will just take some getting used to.”

I also had the honor of testing out the Fetish Fantasy Extreme Spider Gag. This is by far the most extreme and intense open mouth gag I’ve ever tried. It’s the perfect option for advanced kinksters who want an open mouth gag specifically for humiliation play, oral penetration play, and/or excessive drooling.

Not only does it look advanced and kinky, it feels super intense to wear. Having metal directly on your teeth does force you to be a bit careful when biting down. Unlike the Fetish Fantasy Extreme O-Ring Gag, it’s definitely not as comfortable to wear (even though the o-ring is the same size) which is pretty much the point! The spikes on the outside do a great job of forcing your mouth open really wide so you’re completely at your partners mercy. Just be careful! They’re a lot sharper than I was expecting and you don’t want to accidentally nick someone when you move your head!

Why I Chose It

I wanted to include the ZALO x UPKO Rose Ball Gag as my Expert Pick in this review because it’s a unique three-in-one kind of open mouth gag. As our tester, Mariah pointed out, “the wow factor with this accessory is most certainly the removable rose plug. Without it, the ball gag has a window into the mouth for fingers, tongues… you get the idea. With it, you (or your partner) have been transformed into the most adorable little flower vase.”

It’s made of premium quality materials and I personally think the design alludes to a luxury item. The price, however, is surprisingly moderate! Although, this does not mean it is without flaw. Mariah found that it doesn’t offer a big enough range of adjustability: “Over all, the Zalo Rose Ball Gag is a beautifully made ball gag that I WANT to like, but for me it just doesn’t feel comfortable. Somehow it’s too tight, too loose, and pinch-y on the cheeks all at the same time. But for someone with a less full face shape, I can see it being an excellent gag for a fun and steamy session.”
