The 3 Best Pinwheels for BDSM
A BDSM pinwheel, or a wartenberg wheel, is a device used to roll over skin and tantalize the nerve endings; when you’ve been sufficiently teased, you’ll feel every touch a lot stronger than before. Finding the best one, required me to enlist the help of a handful of testers ready to explore and test with me – and we found some fantastic options among the tested pinwheels. Why I Chose It
As an expert I’ve chosen the Bondage Boutique wartenberg wheel as the test winner, first and foremost because our tester, Katie, had an amazing experience using it, saying that it “exceeded all of my expectations”.
She even said she would “be picking this up again and again”, in large parts because the “pain never got too extreme”.
One of the things I really like about a smaller BDSM toy like this, is that they have weight too it, as Katie also pointed out: “I was pleasantly surprised by how heavy it was”.
I thought it was really well made and the design proved to “fit comfortably in my hand”, Katie said.
She also added that she “at no time felt like I was in danger of bleeding”, which is because of the design of the tips/spikes being slightly rounded.
Runner Up Fifty Shades Darker Adrenaline Spikes Metal Wartenberg Pinwheel

Why I Chose It
The Fifty Shades Darker Wartenberg Pinwheel is remarkably similar to the test winner, as it only really sets itself apart on two areas.
First, it uses a slightly different metal blend and coating, giving it a darker-ish color. Brett, who tested it with his partner for us, said that the “polished metal gave it a nice medical feel.”.
Second, the spikes are slightly sharper, which also might be why Brett and his partner said “it felt sharp” and “were much more abrupt than we expected”. They did add that despite the sharpness it wasn’t “so much that we were afraid of puncturing skin”.
Despite not being immediate fans of using pain during foreplay they liked the overall quality, the fact that the “wheel rolled nicely” and that it felt “pretty premium compared to other sex toys”.
The only thing that both I, and Brett noted was that it could use a “plastic washer to stop it from squeaking and wobbling”. Although, I will say, I’ve heard from some that the noise in itself can be a part of what builds up anticipation and tension.
To be completely honest, the only real reason this didn’t make the test winning position is because it’s slightly more expensive. And, of course, the test winner was rated higher (despite the products being very similar).
Best for Beginners Master Series Beginner's Mini Sensation Pinwheel
- Non-metal wartenberg wheel
- The wheel can be taken off (see video)
Specifications
Pros
- ✅ Beginner-friendly
- ✅ Easy to clean & store
- ✅ Unlikely to pierce the skin
- ✅ Portable
- ✅ Lightweight
Cons
- ❌ Easy to misplace
- ❌ Less stimulating than metal alternatives
- ❌ Short handle
- ❌ Difficult to apply much pressure
- ❌ Feels cheaply made
Why I Chose It
The Master Series Lil Devil Mini Pinwheel is a great beginner choise for multiple reasons, but most of all because it’s inexpensive and one of the softer-spikes on any wartenberg pinwheel out there.
Looking at all the pinwheels tested from Bedbible testers I haven’t found a more safe pinwheel. While it was a negative for Britnee and her partner that the “it’s too lightweight to find a good angle for harder pressure” it does make it great for beginners who want to avoid applying to much pressure anyways.
And, Britnee did also have her hesitations about the quality of the product and if they were going to use it much more. But, what getting it did do for them was make her decide that “further exploration into sensory play should be in my future”.
They also noted that it were “inexpensive enough to not worry about it if it’s never used again”. Which all in all is basically what makes for a perfect beginner toy – especially when exploring a completely new type of sexual play.
Lastly, they did also say that they found it too small, saying it looked like “it should be held by a small, barbarian action figure”. I honestly laughed, but heck, the small size is what gives it the beginner-worthy qualities at the end of the day.
