I should preface this by saying that as someone who was assigned female at birth, I do not have a prostate. I do, however, have a butt – and anal play can be hugely pleasurable to anyone, no matter whether they have a prostate or not, because the butt is packed with sensitive nerve endings.

Design

In general, I like the design of Lovehoney's Desire product range (though I don't like that they're basically colour-coded according to the assumed gender of the user, black for men and purple for women.) The Desire Prostate Vibrator is a pretty classic shape for a prostate vibrator with a sleek, sexy and minimalistic design in black silicone. Shape-wise, it's excellent, with a strong curve to the internal arm and a raised nub designed to target the prostate directly. I also love that it's so flexible, which allows for people with all different body shapes and sizes to use it in the way that works for them.

Ease of Use

Any app-controlled toy requires some getting used to when you first try it. The Lovehoney Desire app is reasonably intuitive, though, and I find its controls far easier and more pleasant to use than trying to change the setting using the single button interface on the toy itself.

Quality

The Desire Prostate Vibrator is clearly a high-quality toy. The velvety silicone is soft and seam-free, and mine still functions as well now as it did when I received it 2 years ago. A lot of thought has been put into it, and if you take care of it you can expect it to last you for many pleasurable years.

Price

The Desire Prostate Vibrator retails for $119.99. This is it's cheaper than many app controlled toys, particularly those from high-end brands like Lovense, and on a par with some of its main competitors such as We-Vibe products. Unfortunately, as we'll see later in this review, I think it's overpriced for what it is. This verdict largely comes down to the quality of the vibrations.

Performance

In some ways, the Desire Prostate Vibrator performs brilliantly. Its excellent shape and flexible neck make it a comfortable toy that is accessible for a wide range of bodies. The app connects quickly and is reliable as long as you have a stable internet connection, and this adds many more interesting functionality options. However, it's really let down by the quality of the vibrations. They're fairly buzzy and mediocre as far as power goes. If you're paying $120 for a toy, you expect strong vibrations, and sadly this one just doesn't deliver.

Packaging

The toy arrived in signature Desire-branded black and purple packaging. Compared to the packaging Lovehoney use for their lower priced products, this is definitely a step up. It looks and feels luxurious - great for gifting or just as a special treat for yourself. You immediately feel like you're getting more bang for your buck, so to speak. You also get a faux leather storage pouch for the toy.

Materials and care

The Desire Prostate Vibrator is coated in an ultra-smooth matte black silicone, which is body-safe, hypoallergenic, and hygienic. There's also a small ABS plastic panel on the base. Silicone and hard plastic toys are easy to clean - just use gentle antibacterial soap and warm water. You can fully sterilize your toy using a body-friendly sterile wipe (I buy them in bulk from medical suppliers.)

This toy’s special feature is definitely its app functionality. Whether you’re separated from your loved one temporarily or in a long-distance relationship, this allows you to enjoy a sexual connection no matter where you are in the world. Isn’t technology great? Even if you’re playing solo, the app allows for far more variety and far greater functionality than could be build into the toy without it.
