Can a 70-year-old woman and man be sexually active? And, how often do 70-year-olds make love? That’s the questions we’ll be focussing on in this article. We can quickly start by answering: YES! To the first question. The elderly are namely more active than you’ll probably think. Some people aged 70 or 80 are even more active than most young couples.
This article is based on our own dataset but also publicly available data. This has led to the fact that we’ve analyzed more than 10.000 couples’ sexual activity. We can therefore gladly call this report the largest study of elderly peoples’ sex life. Hope you find the below as interesting as we do.
How often do 70-year-olds (or older) make love?
- 40% of people aged 70 or older are sexually active. That’s 4 out of 10
- All sexually active have on average sex at least once a month
Health and sex
- The older you are the less sexual activity (The ages of late 70s and 80s are half as active as the late 60s)
- 8 out of 10 men take medication/supplements to have a better sex life
- Less than 15% have talked with a doctor about their sexual activities
- 1 out 3 that is categorized as poor health say they were very satisfied with their sexual activity
- Women are less likely to be sexually active than men. When you are equal to or older than 70 years old
- Sex in later life is good for your health (both physically as well as mentally). It boosts your immune system.
- When having sex you burn on average 5 calories pr. minute
- 75% of people have a romantic partner; 55% of those with a romantic partner are sexually active
- 2 out of 3 people aged +70 are interested in having sexual activity
- 75% of the +70 years old said they were satisfied with their current sex life
- 84% of men think that sex is essential. Whereas only 69% of female finds it important
- Children from the current +70’s generation are estimated to be 25% more sexually active than their parents
How sex changes for women
- Older women define sexual activities as intercourse (Researchers and younger people do not necessarily have the same definition)
- The healthier a woman is the higher probability of sexual activity for the partner
- After menopause, many women do not have the same sex drive, and 90% do therefore say they prefer a longer “foreplay”. Some of them even say that their partner should start the foreplay 24 hours before the intercourse.
How sex changes for men
- Men have compared to women a higher sex drive
- 2 out of 3 men over 70 do have problems with erection
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) for old people
- STDs for people aged +70 years old have increased by 25% since last year
- The most common STDs among people aged >70 are Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and HIV
