Unwrapping the Lelo Ida Wave: My Experience

I was excited to try this product. This was based on my first impressions of it – i.e. the box’s plush design, and the overall look and feel of the toy. It looks like no other toy that I have tried before, and whilst I couldn’t imagine the insertable tail being that effective, due to its small size, I was intrigued by its design and had high hopes that it would provide me with a sensation I had never experienced before. Unfortunately, it didn’t quite live up to my expectations. I quickly found that the tail didn’t work with my body and felt uncomfortable. The Wavemotion technology wasn’t as strong as I would like, and the shape and fit of the tail was awkward. The flat vibrating base, however, delivered an amazing vibration, which was strong and rumbly – a sensation which was made even better by the remote controlled aspect of the toy. I actually decided to take the tail out and just use the vibrating base, which was a much more comfortable and enjoyable use of the toy.

The Design: A Closer Look

From an outside perspective, the Lelo Ida Wave looks like it's been designed by the Gods. It's sleek and sultry, and has clearly been made using high quality materials. However, after using the product, it becomes clear that the shape won’t work well for everyone. We'll get into it more, but the design of the toy feels unbalanced and actually felt a little uncomfortable for me at times, which was disappointing, considering the initial delight I felt at unboxing the toy.
Evaluating the User-Friendliness of the Lelo Ida Wave

In fairness, there are very little complaints about the ease of use of the Lelo Ida Wave. It switches on easily via the button on the side of the toy, and flicking between settings is likewise simple. Plus, the Ida Wave's added feature, which is easily its biggest selling point, is the fact that it can be controlled via an app on your phone, making for handsfree pleasure. This is a cool feature which I have only seen used in a handful of sex toys on the market, and definitely adds to the toy's ease of use. However, is it wholly necessary? It depends on the user. I used the app once to test it out, finding that manually controlling the toy really wasn't all that difficult.
Assessing the Lelo Ida Wave’s Quality

If there's one thing that you seriously can't fault with this toy, it's the quality. Of course, this is because it's a Lelo-made toy, which essentially guarantees quality. The materials feel like they are of the highest quality, the packaging is sleek and well-made, and the electronics of the toy work with ease. It's a shame about the design.
Breaking Down the Cost of the Lelo Ida Wave

Nothing comes for free these days, and the same can certainly be said for the Ida Wave. I won't sugar coat it - it's an expensive toy, and personally, I feel like my money would be spent better with a more substantial, classically designed toy. Whilst it is clearly made with high quality materials, and also boasts the added bonus of the remote controlled app, the design didn’t suit my body.
The Performance of the Lelo Ida Wave: A Review

So, as this product is designed to essentially have two moving parts, I will review each part in isolation and then compare how the two work together. Let's start with the vibrating clit massager. This is by far my favourite part of the toy. It's a little strangely designed (simply because it has a large, flat surface area which I find somewhat strange for a toy designed to give clitoral stimulation), but its vibrations are STRONG, and they simply feel great. You can obviously adjust the vibrations to whatever level you desire, but they're gonna feel good on every setting, which gets a big thumbs up from me. Moving on, we have the shaft-like element to the toy. It's kind of shaped like a whale's tale, with a spoon-like tail which admittedly feels a bit odd and uncomfortable on insertion. Using Wavemotion technology, the shaft rotates in a way that feels similar to a finger motion, whilst the very top of the tail vibrates to hit the G spot - only it didn't for me. I think it's a combination of the rotating sensation, the smallness of the shaft, and its strange shape that makes this part of the toy disappointing. In truth, I prefer just using the flat base of the toy to stimulate my clit.
The Lelo Ida Wave’s Packaging

The packaging is plush, with the toy coming in a soft velvet back and a suavely designed black box. The packaging looks good and feels good, and certainly gives off an air of luxury which got me excited to use the toy. It also came with a charging cable and detailed instructions on how to use the toy, going into specifics about how to pair the toy to your phone, which was helpful.
Understanding the Materials and Care for the Lelo Ida Wave

The Lelo Ida Wave is made from high quality, non-porous materials, and it is fully waterproof, which seriously widens the scope for fun with this toy - a feature that I was impressed by. The toy is made from a soft silicone, with a shiny mirror on the base of the toy - I'm not too sure why this feature was added, but I'm sure you could find a use for it - especially in couples play. In terms of cleaning and taking care of the toy, I used anti-bacterial soap and warm water.
Special feature

I suppose one of the special features of this toy is its Wavemotion rotating tail which, as we have already ascertained, is hardly very special. The other special feature is the fact that it can be remote controlled using bluetooth, meaning you can alter the pleasure it delivers via an app on your phone. This feature was a hit, and could be revolutionary in the way that we use and design sex toys moving forwards. It allows you to completely focus on the task at hand, immersing yourself in the pleasure of the experience and not having to think about pushing a button and manually flicking through settings.

Conclusion
To conclude, I would say that on a personal level, this toy doesn't really work for me. Whilst its interesting design intrigues me, it doesn't feel good - and that's exactly what sex toys are supposed to do. Perhaps the toy just doesn't suit my body in particular, but I have read of similar reviews, and it seems like the shape of the tail is a bit hit or miss, so you should consider what shape g-spot toys you prefer before purchasing the Lelo Ida Wave. You really can't fault the toy's quality, but I suppose that for the price tag you wouldn't expect to fault it in this category. Furthermore, what it may lack in execution, it makes up for in creativity, with its integrated Wavemotion technology and remote-controlled app. The toy has potential, it just needs a more user-focussed design.
