Test Winner Vixen VixSkin Maverick
- Dual density silicone
- Hand-poured
- Available in three skin tones
Specifications
Pros
- ✅ Premium quality
- ✅ Feels incredibly realistic
- ✅ Thick, curved shaft
- ✅ Pronounced glans
- ✅ Suction cup base
Cons
- ❌ Will be too big for some
- ❌ No storage bag
Why I Chose It
If I could give two awards, the Vixen Maverick would be both the test winner and the most realistic black dildo! It is fantastic quality and Vixen’s hand-poured, platinum, dual-density silicone dildos are the most realistic feeling I’m yet to experience in my years as a sex toy tester! The solid core and soft, squishy outer layer feel fantastic!
The model tested by our reviewer, Cassie, is actually the Midnight pearl model, but it does come in three skin tones — Chocolate, Vanilla, Caramel if you want a more realistic black dildo in terms of colour. It was love at first ride for Cassie and the Maverick dildo, and she wrote, “it very quickly become my favorite overall dildo in my whole collection.”
She was so impressed by how “incredibly realistic” the Maverick feels, adding that “the skin texture is very lifelike.” She also liked that it had “a large head, and a pronounced glans that offers some intense g-spot massage.”
Although Cassie was a bit taken aback by the size, she ended up enjoying it a lot! She wrote, “it provides a really fulfilling sensation that definitely works for me both on a physical and psychological level.” Even though it took a bit more warm up, she thought it was “totally worth it!”
Another great thing about the Maverick is it has a pretty decent suction cup base, so you can enjoy riding it hands-free! If you love the sound of it but aren’t quite ready for this size, I can highly recommend the Vixen Mustang. I reviewed the rainbow version but it also comes in the three skin tones!
Runner Up Tantus General
- Thick curved shaft
- Gentle ridges
- Harness compatible
Specifications
Pros
- ✅ Thick and long
- ✅ Premium quality silicone
- ✅ Smooth for easy insertion
Cons
- ❌ No suction cup base
- ❌ Attracts a lot of dust
- ❌ Lack of taper can make it tricky to insert
Why I Chose It
If you are looking for a huge black dildo but prefer something less realistic, the Tantus General is both girthy and long and made from top-quality silicone.
Our tester, Cassie, liked that it had a “really apealling design with a smooth and sleek shape, and a super impressive size.” She was also enthralled with the size, commenting that the General has the ability “to command any room he’s in.”
She did appreciate that it’s made from Tantus’ premium silicone but did find it had a tacky quality, so it will need a generous slick of lube.
The smooth texture helps it to glide smoothly, but Cassie found she was missing a little textural stimulation. She also wished there was a suction cup dildo. While I love Tantus’ dildos I do with they would start putting suction cup bases on them!
Best for Beginners Fun Factory Magnum
- Slim, slightly curved shaft
- Strong suction cup base
Specifications
Pros
- ✅ Wonderfully smooth silicone
- ✅ Harness compatible
- ✅ Semi-realistic shape
- ✅ Firm but flexible
Cons
- ❌ No textural stimulation
- ❌ No storage bag included
Why I Chose It
I absolutely love the Fun Factory Magnum dildo and the black just looks gorgeous!
Our reviewer, Natasha, thought that the Fun Factory Magnum was “*chefs kiss* perfect!” I chose it as the best for beginners as it’s slimmer than the other black dildos and the smooth texture makes it feel less intense in use.
Natasha enjoyed it’s “sleek design” and found it was “the perfect amount of flexible.” She found the “slight curve hits [her] g spot beautifully during use.”
She also commented that “it’s great for experimenting thanks to the suction base” which has some good staying power!
Best on a Budget Colours Dual Density 5"
- Double-density silicone
- Realistic design
- Suction cup base
Specifications
Pros
- ✅ Realistic look and feel
- ✅ Lots of textural stimulation
- ✅ Beginner-friendly size
Cons
- ❌ Can be too soft for some tastes
- ❌ Might not work well for anal
Why I Chose It
I love that you can get such a great quality black dildo for under $30! And it’s even dual density, which gives it an even more realistic feeling! This dildo also comes two other skin tones — one darker and one lighter, as well as some bold solid colors.
Ashley tested it out for us and really liked that “the outer skin feels a lot more real than a regular, cold-feeling toy.” She also commented that the dual layers made it “feel more real than regular dildos.” As someone who enjoys textural stimulation, I like that there are some really nice realistic textural details on this dildo too.
She was also very impressed by the strength of the suction cup, writing “it stayed put incredibly well!” She even found it “a little bit hard to get off of the wall afterwards!” A real pro if you prefer riding your dildos!
She did, however, find that the “inner core is a little too soft” for her liking and it meant she needed to use a bit more lube to insert it. I can see this making the dildo a little more difficult to use anally.
Best Thrusting The Velvet Thruster Mini Teddy TX
- 2.5 in stroke length
- 60-130 strokes per minute
- Suction cup base
Vibrations
Specifications
Pros
- ✅ Totally hands-free pleasure
- ✅ Realistic textural details
- ✅ Long battery life
Cons
- ❌ Noisy
- ❌ Not waterproof
- ❌ No storage bag
Why I Chose It
It’s like suction cupping the Energizer Bunny to my headboard and seeing who will give up first.
Our reviewer Katie, was very happy to be taken on a ride by the Velvet Thruster Mini Teddy TX! I wanted to include this thrusting dildo because the realistic details combined with the impressive power make it a real winner!
Katie “absolutely loved being able to grab something [she] didn’t have to hold for once” and “will be grabbing for this one again and again.”
She was surprised by the sheer power of it, commenting it “is one heck of a tool!” And if you are a power queen like me, that’s exactly what I want in a sex toy!
The realism was also appealing, with Katie commenting that it’s “textured to look life-like,” and it “feels so soft and slightly rippled.”
The only reservation I would have about this black dildo is the volume, all that power and thrusting makes it quite noisy, so it’s not great for discretion if you live with others!
Biggest Doc Johnson Bam Vac-U-Lock Dildo
- Molded from pornstar Bam’s penis
- 2.7 inches thick at widest point
- Vac-U-Lock base
Specifications
Pros
- ✅ Great realistic details
- ✅ Very filling
- ✅ Comes with suction cup base
Cons
- ❌ Material is porous
- ❌ Will be too big for many
- ❌ Could be too firm for some
Why I Chose It
WOW. It’s not just girthy, but very long as well.
Our tester, George, is no stranger to big toys, but even he was taken aback by the sheer size of this massive black dildo! It’s definitely large and in charge!
He found that “it’s extremely firm” which made it “hard to push it in all the way,” but he did find the intensity very pleasurable.
He really appreciated the Vac-U-Lock base as it was able to attach to his sex machine, and was impressed by how secure it was, commenting that “even after using it for about 20 minutes, it was holding up well!”
My main concern with this dildo is that it is made from PVC, which is a porous material. After a bit of research I was able to find out that Doc Johnson state it’s phthalate-free though!

Materials Guide
With all kinds of materials out there, what’s the best kind to use to make a black dildo? It’s high time we took a dive into some of the options!
- Silicone – Super body-safe, realistic feeling, durable, and non-porous, silicone is a staple of sex toy materials! If you are looking for a realistic black dildo, I recommend silicone. Dual density silicone will also give a more realistic feel.
- PVC – Is a lower quality material, that is porous and sometimes contains phthalates. Larger dildos tend to be made of PVC rather than silicone because it’s cheaper but keep in mind they cannot be fully cleaned and might contain harmful chemicals.
- TPE – A kind of soft plastic, TPE has a lot of the same properties as silicone. The only major difference is that TPE is porous and will require a little extra cleaning!
- Glass – Solid and stiff, glass is a fun material for a black dildo if you prefer something a little more dramatic and harsh. Looks great, easy to clean, and don’t worry – it won’t smash!
How to choose the right size black dildo
So if you’ve decided that you want to try using a dildo for the first time, the first question you will probably wonder is what size you should go for.
There are a few things to consider before you make your purchase, we have jotted a few down for you to make your decision a little easier.
Diameter
The diameter which is also called the circumference or girth, is the most important factor in your decision on what size dildo you should choose.
The reason this is the most important is because the diameter determines how easy the toy is to insert. Larger girths will be trickier to get in, particularly if you’ve not used a dildo before.
Larger girths will give you a more intense sensation and a feeling of fullness, if that’s what you’re looking for then a larger diameter is the way to go.
A good way of checking this is by using your fingers to figure out what feels good.
We would recommend that if you have never been penetrated before by either a toy or a penis so this will be your first sex toy, then you should start with a diameter of 1 inch and below. If you are a beginner then 1-1.5 inches should be a good place to start, and you can work your way up from this depending on experience.
Dildos with tapered heads are easier to insert as it gradually eases you into a larger girth.
Length
Length is actually not as important as you might think when choosing the size of your dildo.
With a dildo that is too long you can stop inserting it at whatever point you feel comfortable, so you can still use that dildo.
So when choosing the size of your dildo, you don’t have to worry about length too much. If you’ve found a dildo that suits you in every other way but is a little longer than you are used to then you should probably still go for it.
Use
How you plan to use your dildo will have an impact on what size you should go for.
If you want to use your black dildo as a strap on, then it’s worth sizing up slightly.
If you want to use your dildo anally then you’ll need to start off small and very slowly build your way up. You also need to make sure that your dildo is suitable for anal use and has a flared base.
