First Impressions

My first impressions of the Fun Factory Ryde can be summed up in one word: intimidating. From the color scheme to the length and girth of the dildos, I was nervous about this toy from the moment I opened the box. However, its high reviews made me cautiously optimistic about using it, so I went to testing it right away!  From the clear instructions on the box, I was shown several ways to initially try out my new toy, so clearly, one of its benefits is that it is incredibly adaptable and versatile.

Solo Use

Frankly, dear reader, I’m not sure that grinding toys are for me. I personally find them a little awkward and unwieldy, and the fit never seems quite right for my body. The strength of a grinding toy really relies on what pleasurable angles you can find, so if you buy a grinding toy that isn’t the right fit for you, then you’ve essentially just purchased a very expensive dildo with an awkward extra appendage. However, the Fun Factory Ryde does not have this problem! One of the best features of this toy is its flexibility. Unlike some of the grinders I’ve tried in the past, this one isn’t overly rigid. Instead, while it does have enough structure to making grinding pleasurable, it’s also flexible enough to adjust to any body shape, angle, or curve, making solo play incredibly pleasurable.

Strap-On Use

One of the other, most advertised and discussed features of the Ryde is the ability to be used as a double dildo during strap-on partnered play. My partner already has a penis, but indulged me by using this toy with a strap-on so I could indulge in Ryde’s much-hyped double penetration abilities. While the anal dildo was a little too big for a novice like me, the experience was still highly enjoyable. I also appreciate that the Fun Factory Ryde is compatible with strap-on harnesses, because it makes for a toy that can be used creatively and in many different sexual scenarios.

Design

The Fun Factory Ryde is an aesthetically-pleasing toy, with a simple black and red design. It's elegant and understated, although the red and black design does, perhaps, make it look a little intimidating! It's giving the bad guys in Star Wars - which I am certainly into, but some folks might find a bit overwhelming. The green version looks militaristic, like something a character in Halo would carry around in their backpack. The smooth surfacing and elegant curves make this toy incredibly attractive, and its slightly curvy base add a fun and playful flair.

Ease of Use

In theory, the Fun Factory Ryde should be incredibly easy to use. It has no batteries, no remotes, no apps, and no bells or whistles. It doesn't need to be charged or set up. Without any vibrating or thrusting capabilities, using it should be as simple as cleaning it, using some lube on it, and have fun. However, if you're new to grinding toys, there can be a learning curve in finding a position and angle that are comfortable for you - and the Fun Factory Ryde is no exception. Additionally, if you have mobility issues, the Fun Factory Ryde will not be a suitable toy for you, as its power and fun comes from being able to move one's hips or thrust.

Quality

A toy of exceedingly high quality. It feels as if its made from high-quality materials. After several uses and washes, it has held up without any obvious signs of wear or tear. The Fun Factory Ryde is not cheap in any way. Everything is expertly designed and crafted.

Price

I am always of the opinion that you really can't put a price on quality. And $85 for a high-quality, well-designed, and multi-use sex toy does not seem astronomical at first blush. However, also consider that this toy doesn't have any "bells and whistles." There is no vibrating, thrusting, app-compatibility, or any other extra feature that might justify the high price point. If you feel that this is a toy you'll put in your regular sexual rotation (and you should, because as I've mentioned before, it's very versatile!), then $85 is absolutely worth it — no question.

Performance

In the marketing for this product, Fun Factory makes big promises about how many things the Ryde can do — and those promises are more than met. Though a relatively simple toy, the Ryde can be used in a variety of situations alone, with a partner, or in a group setting. It performs well, whether in a strap-on or with its suction-cup base.

Packaging

One of the best things about the Fun Factory's Ryde toy is its packaging! There has been a trend in sex toy packaging lately towards minimalism, which generally leaves me with an overall impression of cheapness. However, Fun Factory has gone all out with this packaging. Its comprehensive, elegant, and not only includes care instructions, but detailed usage instructions as well.

Materials and care

One small negative to the Ryde by Fun Factory is its weight. This is a heavy toy. Thought this does add to its overall feeling of high-quality, it does make storing and maneuvering it occasionally tricky, especially as it doesn't come with any kind of storage bag or container besides its packaging box. It can be washed with toy cleaner or traditional soap and warm water, and it is waterproof and body-safe. Fun Factory also makes a point of highlighting that the Ryde is anal-safe. One small complaint that I have is that it attracts dust and hair, meaning that it should also be cleaned with a microfibre cloth rather than a traditional one.
