Why I Chose It
Having tried every (body-safe) butt plug material there is, I knew I wanted to choose a glass or metal plug as the overall test winner. Choosing such a rigid material instead of a softer silicone might seem like an odd choice, but there is method to my madness! Glass slides so much more smoothly than silicone and the rigidity actually makes it easier to insert! And don’t worry, borosilicate glass is extra strong and can even be boiled for a deep clean!
I chose the Icicles no. 48 because it is slim and non-intimidating and our tester, Kasia gave it a glowing review! She loved the that the “glass material looks so luxurious and classy” and the “unusual and unique” daisy design on the base.
She was also a fan of how the glass butt plug felt in use, commenting that it “is quite small and easy to insert” and she “found it comfortable to wear, even during sex.”
The main downside to this material is that “the glass gets very slippery when used with lube,” which can make it a little tricky to handle.

Why I Chose It
I don’t think it gets much better than the b-Vibe Novice Plug when it comes to beginners butt plugs. That being said, I know that not every beginner wants to spend so much on something they don’t know if they’ll enjoy or not, which the main reason I didn’t choose this as the test winner.
That being said, this plug has a lot to offer and it really is a top-quality product, which is why I included it! I have tried a few b-Vibe products and am consistently impressed by their designs and vibration quality.
Our tester, Jess, “absolutely LOVED the B-Vibe Novice butt plug,” commenting that it “is by far the most comfortable plug” she’s ever worn!
I think the “tapered design that is roughly the size of a finger” is the ideal shape and size for anyone feeling a bit nervous about a more bulbous plug.
Jess also enjoyed that added vibrations which she described as “small but mighty” but also likes that it feels great with or without the vibrations, making it more versatile.
As a sex toy expert, I am always happy to see a remote control with anal toys as it can be super fiddly to change the settings while wearing the plug otherwise!
The last thing I really love is that the plug comes with an anal play guidebook full of helpful info that I would have loved to have when I first started my anal journey!

Why I Chose It
Metal is another sex toy material I highly recommend for anal toy beginners, because of its smooth, gliding surface, and doesn’t get any less intimidating than a rainbow butt plug with a heart-shaped base, in my opinion!
Our tester, Naomi, was unsure of using a metal butt plug at first but was pleasantly surprised that “with a little lube, insertion was easy and comfortable”
She “loved the rainbow color scheme and the cute heart gem” and being able to heat it or cool before use for a wider variety of sensations.

“This thing made me glimpse God.”
It’s safe to say that our tester, Paden, was pleasantly surprised by the Romp Bass, even though he’s not usually into butt plugs! He found it was the closest he had been able to get having a prostate orgasm so far.
He loved the the powerful vibrations, commenting that you can “feel the vibrations from this thing in your entire lower half of your body.” The “lower settings give you a more rumbly type of vibration” which he enjoyed in combination with a rocking motion, before exploring the higher power settings.
I think this great range of intensities is perfect for a beginners anal toy, as you can slowly work up to more powerful stimulation as you get used to the sensations.
Plus, at just 1.2 inches in diameter, this vibrating butt plug is still small enough to be very approachable and it has a lovely taper for easy insertion!

Why I Chose It
I’ve always found that textures feel a lot more intense when using a toy anally because the anus is much tighter, which is why I think the Tantus Silk is by far the best anal dildo for beginners! It’s so smooth, meaning there will be little resistance when sliding it in.
Our tester, Kasia, found that the “the size was too small” and she “didn’t feel a ton of stimulation” when using it vaginally but was happy to have it as an “anal play buddy.” She also pointed out that it would make a great pegging dildo as it’s harness compatible.
In my experience, it’s much better to have a firmer dildo for anal play, otherwise it can be difficult to insert, which is another reason I chose the Tantus Silk.
For me, the simplicity and quality of the Tantus Silk makes it a real winner! And at just 1.1 inches in diameter it’s a super accessible size.

Our tester, Cassie, felt these anal beads were the perfect first time anal beads for her and I couldn’t agree more that these are perfect for beginners!
Cassie really liked that the “graduating sizes, slim body, tapered shapes, and the over flexibility” made these anal beads very beginner-friendly. The downside of that is that “The first few beads are really small and bendy” which she found made them tricky to insert.
While she didn’t find the beads alone super stimulating, she did “enjoy the sensation as a part of some warm-up or combined with other kinds of stimulation on other body parts.”

Why I Chose It
As I mentioned earlier, I’m a huge fan of b-Vibe’s anal toys and think they’ve really mastered their niche! I really love the how thoughtful this anal training kit it is and think it’s fantastic for anyone looking to explore anal training.
Our reviewer, Aaron, was impressed with all the kit has to offer. He found the smallest plug very approachable as “the end is only slightly bigger around than a finger” and the larger plug more satisfying size-wise. His favorite was the middle plug as he really enjoyed the variation and intensity of sensations, commenting that, to his surprise, the vibrations just kept “ramping up the intensity.”
Alongside the plugs, he was impressed by the anal play guidebook that was “very thorough, and full of valuable information.” He was surprised to find things he’d never heard before, including “tips to control breathing during anal play.” I love to see sex toy companies taking safety and education so seriously!
The only bit of the set that didn’t excite Aaron was the lube applicator, which he found a little unnecessary, but I would say this a small critique for an otherwise fantastic set!

I’ve found that a good thick water-based lubricant is best for anal play as it provides both slip and cushioning, making everything slide much more easily and reducing the risk of friction or tears.

If you want to use a douche, I recommend doing it an hour or two before to allow all the water to come out.
