DIY BDSM For Kinky Crafters

BDSM can be an exciting adventure to embark on, but it can also be pretty pricey!

But fear not, BDSM doesn’t have to cost an arm or a leg (both metaphorically and literally — play safe please!), as there are plenty of things around the house that can be perverted and turned into DIY BDSM gear!

When it comes to pervertibles (ordinary objects that can be turned into sex props) you can get as creative as you like, some are ready to go and some require a little DIY.

From repurposing kitchen utensils into torturous DIY BDSM toys to transforming furniture into bondage furniture fit for a BDSM dungeon, we’ve got something for all tastes and crafting abilities!

DIY BDSM projects are perfect if you are just dipping your toes into the wonderful world of BDSM and want to figure out what you like before cashing out for some purpose-made BDSM gear and it’s much easier to hide if you want to be discrete!

So grab your screwdriver ready to create your very own DIY BDSM dungeon!

DIY BDSM Furniture

Now before you get carried away, there’s no need to get your saw out just yet!

We won’t be building any furniture from scratch. We will, however, discover some simple ways to give your regular, boring, old furniture a sexy BDSM makeover!

Many of these DIYs are quick to install/uninstall and easy to disguise, so you won’t have trouble hiding them from prying eyes!

DIY BDSM Bed

Purpose made BDSM beds look incredible, but they certainly aren’t cheap and you might not want to sleep in one every day.

If you have a wooden framed bed and don’t mind making some small alterations, you can transform it into a bondage bed with the simple addition of four hitch rings. For this, you want hitch rings with mounting plates that can be screwed into the wooden bed frame — one in each corner.

These make the perfect place to attach some bondage rope or other restraints. If you are going for the full dungeon effect, you can add some chains from your local hardware store. You can also buy some sex bed straps and turn you bed into a bondage paradise.

DIY Bondage Bench/ Torture Chest

Whip two subs with one flogger (pretty sure that’s how the saying goes if I remember correctly) with a two-in-one BDSM restraint and storage chest! A storage chest with handles at the side makes the perfect spot to stash all your toys — the more piratey, the better, and you get bonus points if it has an old-timey padlock on the front.

It also doubles up as a spanking bench, making it the perfect place to bend your partner over and give them a good flogging or enjoy some anal play. You can attach their wrist cuffs to the handles of the chest to make sure they don’t escape!

DIY BDSM Cage

If you need somewhere to lock up your naughty sub but don’t want to spend thousands on a cage, a large dog cage is a much cheaper option. This is even better if you are into puppy play! Just remember, to practice safe play and never leave anyone unattended inside the cage. If you have a very sturdy cage with thick metal bars, you can even attach some wood to the top to make your very own cage sex table! Spice the caging up even more with a chastity cage.

DIY BDSM Queening Stool

Queening or kinging stools are fantastic for lavishing your partner with oral attention with a little more support so you can go for even longer! You can create your own using a footstool by making some modifications to the seat. It’s important that the frame of your stool doesn’t have any crossbars that prevent you from lying underneath the stool. Remove a circular section of the seat and attach a toilet seat (a padded one will be the comfiest), making sure to secure it to the frame tightly. And there you go – you’re very own sex chair.

DIY BDSM Chair

Adding restraints points:

Any wooden chair can be transformed into a kinky sex chair. Similar to the wooden bed DIY, one of the simplest is adding some metal anchor rings or eyelets to the front legs, so you can easily attach some restraints using a carabiner.

DIY Good Girl/ Bad Girl Chair:

As well as adding restraints, if you have the equipment and skill level, you can make your own good girl/bad girl chair by cutting a hole in the seat of a chair to hold a wand vibrator. You’ll need a traditional style wand with the widest part of the handle nearest the head— the Magic Wand Rechargeable is perfect for this project! You want to position the hole so that it sits perfectly against your partner, so it’s best to have them sit on the seat to work out where it should be. Measure around the top of the wand to get the size of your hole.

This Reddit user had the genius idea to make the hole slightly smaller than the wand and add a silicone ring to get a super snug fit!

Home Gym to DIY Sex Dungeon

Now you don’t have to choose between a home gym or a bondage dungeon as some of the equipment is surprisingly similar. I know which kind of torture I would choose anyway! Gym equipment is just calling out to be used for bondage — they are made to bear body weight and have plenty of places to attach restraints — just keep this in your own home though, you don’t want to get thrown out of your local gym!

Wall rack/ Gymnastic Ladder

This wall-mounted ladder gives you plenty of height options to choose from when restraining your partner —  you can stretch them out or make them kneel or even hold them in the X position while you have your fun! Add a few bondage straps and you’re good to go.

Power Rack BDSM Frame

How can you tell me that these weren’t made for bondage! They aren’t the cheapest piece of equipment to buy, but if you already have one at home or want to upgrade your home workouts, they have endless bondage possibilities! You also don’t need to make a lot of adjustments to turn one of these cages into a DIY bondage frame — simply add some restraints of your choice and you are ready to give your partner a workout to remember! Just be warned that it is not designed for full-body suspension, so it’s best to use it for restraint purposes only.

Pete at rope connections has come up with some great modifications that allow him to get in a workout and get freaky, depending on the mood!

Work out bench

Work-out or weight training benches can also live a double life as BDSM benches! Flat benches with adjustable heights make for great spanking benches as you attach restraints to feet or legs. Adjustable benches with raised backs make great platforms for teasing your partner with a wand vibrator or sensation toys. You can use a pair of wrist to thigh restraints or just normal thigh cuffs to spice it up.

Chin-up/ Pull-up Bar

These easy to install bars can be put up and taken down in a matter of minutes and are fantastic for holding your partner’s arms above their head or even holding some types of sex swings if you don’t want to buy a sex swing stand or a door sex swing! You can also buy wall-mounted bars that you can position to suit your restraint requirements.

DIY BDSM Accesories

DIY BDSM Collar

A BDSM collar not only looks the part but makes a great place to attach a leash or join to other restraints.

Luckily a BDSM collar DIY doesn’t really require any DIY skills, just a quick trip to your local pet store!

There’s a dog collar out there to suit every aesthetic, and you can even pick up a matching leash while you’re there!

If you are into pet play, many pet shops will also make custom ID tags, for a cute accessory for the pup in your life!

DIY BDSM Restraints and Cuffs

There are plenty of things around the house that can have your partner tied up in no time! The important thing is safety — always have some bondage shears on hand so you can cut your partner out in an emergency, never leave them unattended, and make sure the restraints aren’t too tight and do not interfere with their blood supply. You should also be very careful when using soft fabrics — the knots can tighten easily, so you will need to check them regularly to make sure they are not too tight.

Here are some of my favorite options for DIY restraints that can be used to bind your partner’s wrists or ankles or secure them to your DIY BDSM furniture:

  • Scarves
  • Ties
  • Belts (you can punch more holes if necessary)
  • Double sided velcro
  • A pillowcase — restrain your partner’s arms behind their back by inserting their arms into a pillow case
  • Rope — bondage rope is the best option as it’s soft on the skin and it’s pretty inexpensive but there are plenty of options when it comes to rope and some you can pick up at a hardware store. Common options include natural fibers, such as cotton, hemp, and jute and synthetic options, such as nylon or MFP (multi-fiber propylene). This post from Ropestudy has loads of great information on choosing the best bondage rope!

DIY BDSM Spreader Bar

Spreader bars keep your partner’s legs spread wide open, giving you complete access to tease and please as choose.

To make a spreader bar, you will need:

  • a wooden dowel (cut to your preferred length),
  • two closed eye hooks,
  • a drill,
  • something to wrap the bar in (e.g. tape, leather/ fake leather, fabric),
  • two carabiners,
  • some sandpaper.

Steps:

  1. Start by sanding down the cut ends so they are nice and smooth.
  2. Then mark and drill your holes for the eyelets at either end of the pole.
  3. Next, use a drill bit that is thinner than the screws on your eye hooks to drill the holes. You can then screw your hooks into the holes and attach a carabiner to each one.
  4. The final step is to wrap the length of the pole in a tape or fabric of your choice.

DIY BDSM Hood

There are a few things around the house that can be used to make a BDSM hood.

A ski mask or balaclava can give the same feelings of sensory deprivation and submission and can be combined with an eyemask or blindfold for a more intense experience.

DIY BDSM Toys

Now we’ve thoroughly covered where and how to restrain your partner, let’s take a look at some of the household objects you can use to tease and torture them!

DIY BDSM Paddle

Your house is full of potential spanking paddles and once you start looking, you will be seeing them everywhere!

  • Spatulas — silicone ones are fantastic as they are easy to clean
  • Ping pong paddle
  • The back of a hair brush
  • Small cutting/serving board with a handle
  • Rug beater

DIY BDSM Sensation Toys

Sensation play awakens the whole body and puts the senses into a state of high alert.

The physical sensations together with the psychological anticipation can be electrifying!

Again, your imagination really is the limit here.

You can use all sorts of household objects to create different sensations on your partner’s skin.

  • Massage rollers
  • Jade/quartz face rollers — these can be cooled for some temperature play
  • Feathers
  • Fork — drag the fork lightly over your partner’s skin for a tickling, scratching sensation
  • Large plastic comb
  • Silicone baking brush
  • Rolling pin
  • Clean make up brushes

DIY BDSM Flogger

Floggers and BDSM whips are BDSM staples, perfect for teasing tickling or stingy strikes. There are a few different ways to make your own flogger depending on which materials you prefer to use. Luckily for you, I got my craft on and made two options with easy-to-follow DIY flogger instructions!

DIY Paracord Flogger

This simple flogger only requires a few basic knots and braiding skills to create a powerful flogger with just some paracord and wooden or metal ring. The full instructions even have a GIF to break down the braiding technique!

DIY Leather Flogger

If you prefer the leather flogger look or are knot-averse, I’ve got you covered! Made using a wooden dowel (or chopstick), some leather or fake leather, and some fabric glue, this DIY flogger is also very simple to make and can be ready to go in no time!

DIY Ice Dildo

How to Make an Ice Dildo in 6 Easy Steps

If you enjoy the chilling thrills of temperature play, an ice dildo is a cheap, fun way to explore ice play! Run the frozen phallus over your partner’s nipples, labia, and clitoris for some tantalizing fun. These are great for external play but are not suitable for inserting into the anus. Check out Edwina’s post for full instructions on how to make and use an ice dildo. If DIY isn’t your jam, there are plenty of sex toys that can be heated or cooled for temperature play!

And a word on safety…

We do not recommend making your own BDSM sex toys and always recommend that you purchase purpose-made sex toys from a reputable shop. We are in no way responsible for any harm caused due to the use or sharing of these DIYs. You are 100% responsible for the outcome should you choose to make your own sex toys.
