Personal Experience

After my very middling experience with the Ruby Glow Blush, I was on the lookout for a grinding toy that I could really enjoy. I happened upon the Niya Five, and immediately fell in love with its soft cornflower blue color. The idea of the flexible wings that are designed to make the toy very versatile was intriguing to me, too. And honestly, I really wanted to see if Rocks Off, the brand behind both toys, could redeem themselves with this one.

Design

Like I mentioned before, I really am drawn to the gorgeous color of this toy. It's a very pretty blue with an almost-lavender tint to it. There definitely is more variety in sex toy colors these days, but shades like this that aren't the usual 'feminine' pink or purple are still more rare than I'd like. I also think that the general shape of the Niya is nice and simple, though I wish they had put a bit more thought into the base, as the flatness doesn't lend itself well to being a penis stroker.

Ease of Use

Let's start with the positives: the Niya and its remote are very easy to pair. I've had troubles in the past with remote controls, but I only had to read the instructions once to figure this one out. Simply press and hold any button on the remote for 3 seconds until the light starts to flash, then hold the button on the toy until it vibrates once — now they're paired. The problems arise when you actually sit on the toy and find out that it's extremely firm, which may be a big issue to anyone who's more sensitive down there. Another problem I noticed is that it's actually quite hard to bend the wings. The edges are very floppy, but once I tired to bend it closer to the middle, it did take a lot of grip strength.

Quality

Looking at the materials and the construction, this is a high-quality toy. The silicone is pretty soft (though not the softest or silkiest I've encountered), and it's built solidly. I've bent the wings this way and that, and it doesn't look anywhere near breaking. However, I wish they had invested more in quality motors that could produce stronger, more rumbly vibrations.

Price

At just under $100, the Niya N5 is not the most expensive vibrator out there, but it's not the cheapest either. I think the design and quality are great, but for this price, I would expect some stronger, more rumbly vibrations. You also don't receive a storage pouch with the toy, just a charging cable and the remote control. I do appreciate that the remote is rechargeable, though, as that's still quite rare in the world of sex toys.

Performance

How would I sum up the Niya N5's performance in one word? Buzzy. For that reason alone, I can't see it becoming a regular sex toy for me. However, I know that this matters much less to other people, so it could be a great option for some. In terms of battery function, I think it has a decent battery life and charging time, and it's even fairly quiet!

Packaging

I really like the Niya's packaging. It's definitely minimalistic, but it also feels refreshingly different from other, flashier sex toy packaging. There's no plastic involved, so it's totally recyclable. Plus, unless anyone took a close look at what's written on it, you wouldn't know that it's a sex toy at all.

Materials and care

The Niya is made from 100% non-porous, body-safe silicone, and the remote is made of silicone and ABS plastic. Both are fully waterproof, which is a wonderful surprise! You can clean them using warm water and a mild, unscented soap, or you can use a specialty toy cleaner. Since this silicone loves to attract every bit of dust and lint it can find, I would recommend storing it away as soon as possible after cleaning, and giving it a quick rinse before use. Unfortunately, it doesn't come with a storage pouch, so you could use the box it comes in, or a larger fabric bag will do the job.
